nt pyrene derivatives that contain a cholesterol moiety on one PEG terminus. Cholesterol is an essentail lipid component to build and maintain basic animal cell functional. It is one of animal cell-mmbrane structure components and establishes proper membrane permeability and fluidity. In addition to its structural function, cholesterol is also the imporant precursor for the biosyntheis of steroid hormones, bile acids and viamin D. Pyrene is a unique fluorescent dye that has exceptionally long excite-state lifetimes (>100 nanoseconds). The long excited-state life time of this dye makes it useful for time-resolved fluorescent immonoassays, probing oxygen in cells and lipid vesicles. Pyrene labeled PEG cholesterol can be used to study cell membrane structures and other properties. PEG linker between Pyrene and Cholesterol offers better water solubility, less steric hindrance and enhanced stability. Compared to other common fluorescent dyes, Nanocs’ reactive fluorescent PEG dyes are brighter, more stable and easier to use. All our reactive fluorescent PEG dyes can be used directly in aqueous buffer without need adding any organic solvents.
